Better Beginnings encourages parents to read to their babies from birth. The program is designed by the State Library of WA with support from the Department of Health and local governments.
Better Beginnings is a program run for parents with new born babies and intends to inspire parents to enjoy reading, rhyming, singing and talking with their baby.
Free Better Beginnings Reading Kit
The Better Beginnings free reading kit includes:
A free gift board book for your baby from your local council
A nursery rhyme frieze and a BB poster
A list of first books for babies and toddlers
A brochure with tips for enjoying reading with your baby
Information about library activities such as Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime.
As part of the Better Beginnings program, parents with new babies within the Town of Cottesloe, Shire of Peppermint Grove and the Town of Mosman Park can collect their free Better Beginnings reading kit from The Grove Library or their Community Child Health Nurse.
Better Beginnings Plus
Better Beginnings Plus, is new in 2012 and builds on the foundations of the original Better Beginnings program. Children of preschool age will receive a Better Beginnings Plus reading kit including parent information, suggested booklists tailored to preschool reading ability, and a specially selected gift book. The packs will soon be delivered to local Kindy and Pre-primary classes in Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove and Mosman Park.
